Title: I dont know what its called..
Post by: 77fordwind on February 26, 2021, 12:44:35 PM
I just know the sound it makes when sucks down gasoline 750 dp tuned and ready, see ya at the lake tomorrow. The next adventure is going to be the pump, either having mine built by place diverter or just buying this one and install myself which i would do anyway with pd too.this old timer in sun city sell alot of jet boat shit anybody ever deal with him? Seems legit and maybe hell buy mine in exhange.

Pulling out your pump and freshing it up isn't that difficult. Once the impeller is off, and it's in good shape, just a matter of a wear ring clearances, and put it back together. Same if you need a new impeller. It's not rocket science. (Just jet boat science) youtube has a very indepth videos, from cp performance.

I've done half a dozen pumps over the years.

Yupp ive binged watched all of them, never done a jet pump before but then again 10 years back id never done an outdrive either. The thing im at odds with is the cost of rebuild kit versus having it built by pd, versus picking up this refurbished unit... Decisions decisions hahaha

One thing to keep in mind is that there is detailing that can be done to make the pump more efficient. It may not effect your cruiser like a hot rod, so paying someone to do it might not be worth it. But that is something maybe to discuss with Place Diverter.
Another thing to think about is an inducer. It is an smaller impeller that goes on the shaft in front of the impeller that helps to keep it loaded. It is supposed to help with acceleration. The shaft would have to be machined to add it. These things aren’t necessary. But if you end up rebuilding, now would be the time to consider them.
Sorry to make it more confusing. But, just some things to think about.

I should just do it myself huh? I mean the satisfaction factor alone is worth it hahaha guess i just got to absorb as much as possible come up with a gameplan of what will best suit the boat and go for it. Just kicking myself in the ass for not doing it when the motor was out this winter.

Ran great for two laps steady 3500 rpm @ 38-43mph then halfway thru the third lap around perris front corner of valve cover gasket blew out!! Thought it was the shitty valve covers because i had a problem with them before but turns out the felpro gasket actually cracked diagonally between the two lower bolts, im ultra dissapointed. Just going to get new valve covers and better gaskets, idk about everyone else but ive never had good luck with chrome valve covers.

Basil is a good dude, but he puts the thrust bearings in backwards. I've seen in twice now. It won't grenade immediately, but it will create issues.

If your impeller is in good shape then your rebuild shouldn't even be close to $900.

Big League Racing in San Clemente does killer work.

Well damn thats no good. Think my bearing is going bad... Whistles off the ramp till she warms up(never did that before engine was built). Pretty sure impeller is good but didnt do any measurements yet taking hand hole cover and nozzle off right now maybe bowl too if im feeling lucky. Ok ill check them out too thanks for the input, ive heard of another guy in Temecula that does blueprinted pumps too but dont recall his name.

Be careful, if that bearing goes bad the impeller will grind itself against the suction housing ruining lots of parts along the way. If it goes far enough it can cause problems with your engine's thrust bearings.

If it's squeaking now that could be the impeller grinding against the wearing ring. I'm throwing out a worst case scenario, but I prefer to err on the side of caution.

This last summer I saw a couple super gnarly blown pumps. A new thrust bearing could have saved them form buying a new pump.

Here's a pump I have down at BLR right now for a customer. I can't wait to see it in person. Bowl is currently at the machinist getting lightened. Customer went all out. Rebuild, inducer, shoe and ride plate, machined bowl, along with a new droop and diverter, all powder coated super silver candy red. When I get it back I'm resetting the intake and building aluminum TA plates. Should be nice all said and done.

Awesome! You won't be disappointed.

I can store your boat while I build a trailer. Send me a PM and we can discuss details if you're interested.

Thanks man yea i really hope so it already got up and boogied before the motor and pump were built, just the piece of mind knowing theyre both fresh and done right will be worth it.

Here we go again pump install went down flawlessly but in the process the intake somehow decided to develop a leak and while i was down there i found this screw down there that wasnt there before or maybe it was covered idk im over pissed with this shit already but gotta keep going.

Also swapping a 350 into this nova for my bro and helping my dad put his c10 back together trying to convince him to 5.3 ls swap.

Pump intake is all sealed back up and shes ready to rip tomorrow, anybody else going to be at perris??

Also got the powerplant in the nova looking for a posi rear end and thats a wrap for that one.

Its completely apart again, pump intake needs to be reset... This will be the 3rd time ive taken the entire boat apart. So i broke the motor completely down for inspection and to change some components(oil pump, harmonic damp, flywheel etc) and there was quite a bit of break in material still in the pan even tho i changed oil twice after break in. I will be pulling the pan from now on after a break in.

Anyways heres a list of what shes getting before it will be making any splashes this summer

1.reset intake
2.12jc split bowl mod with mini droop
3.bilge paint
4.full carpet kit

Hopefully itll be done buy mid july felt good being on the water again she is wicked with the fresh pump thats why i didnt want to risk it with a weak intake.
