Title: Measure your dip stick!

I was just trying to catch your attention with the subject title, looks like it worked  ;D

I'm going to build my own oil pan for my BBC. I've got the 500 or 600 for a new oil pan but I'd rather spend that on other things. I'd buy one off of eBay for half that but I'm not sure how deep the oil pan can be. A friend of mine bought a Dooley oil pan for a BBC jet boat that measured 7" deep, he had about a 1/4" left over between the pan and the bottom of the hull. All the Milodon and Moroso marine oil pans I've seen measure at least 7 3/4" deep and usually 8" deep or more.

I'm asking others here with BBC's and shorter jet boat hulls to measure their oil pans depth.

Thanks in adavance! The oil pan that I have will definately not work!

What do you think of that early 70ish "mailbox" air scoop?  O0

You wanted the measurement of the dip stick , Do you want length, width, girth, or how loud they are when I stick it in? >:D

I think the jet pans are deeper in the front than they are in the back . Is there any way you can measure someone elses .

3 of my friends have BBF's, the one that has a BBC has a Dooley jet boat pan that is 7 inches deep and it clears his hull by about a 1/4 inch. However, he and his friend (Hi Marcsrollin) fabbed in the BBC in place of a ? Olds ? and they aren't rocket scientist's. Neither am I, but I've got an awesome set of tools. I guess I'm going to make it 7 inches deep.

I'm buyin a moroso oil pan and it's got turbo provisions , it's chiney and it's in the $300 range . Not bad to me . Not to mention a windage tray built in and baffled I believe.

Sweet, another Chevy in the bunch. Have you bought that pan yet? Sounds like a reasonable price to me also.

No I haven't . It's on my "to buy " list amongst other things.
