My boat’s bow looks like a dry riverbed. It has lots of cracks in the gelcoat all over. Under the bow is a layer of ¼ plywood, to support it. Below that is a 1x4 to spread the load I suppose, then a vertical ¾ plywood down to the bottom center of the hull, front to rear. I don’t know if it was built that way, but I doubt it. I’m wondering how to repair this. I think I’ll have to grind off the gel on the bow, and likely build up more glass before a regel or repaint. Should I get rid of the ¼ ply, or is it supposed to be there?
