Title: Painting A Boat?

Have a 78 Eliminator with a original gel coat,,Very multicolered,Think about painting it,,Anyone have a good experience with this,,Just seems to that the paint wouldnt hold up,crack,peel,with the flexing, etc ;),and do you paint the underside to?Seems like it would be real slick.
