i have painted lots of cars but never a boat can anyone give me any tips or tricks on how to make the paint bond... do i need to use any special adhesive promoters or anything like that???

sand to 400 grit then wipe with grease and wax remover then wipe with a tack cloth then spray primer sealer then your color saame as a car. Just make sure its clean clean clean  welcome to the madness

im still a fan of base- clear on top deck  I put 35 coats total on mine and when color sanded and buffed it looks awesome .single stage or other finishes on the hull are fine

Must have taken years to paint. 

I'm in the process of painting my hull with AWLGRIP.

I painted the inside and it came out pretty good for a back yard job.

Make sure you have a good respirator, that stuff will melt your brain.

did you guys make your own stand to use when painting the bottom of the hull? Or did you completely gut the whole boat and flip her over?

The biggest problem with old boats is how many times they've been painted before. To be on the safe side I would strip the hull down to bare glass, and while it's there repair any cracks it might have had before. Then use a nice 2 part primer/sealer so the paint doesn't fade into the glass over time. Then just use whatever automotive base paint you normally use. If you have a kinda lighter hull I would use a bit of Flex Additive for any fatties walking across the deck bowing it in.

Here are some pic's of how we did my old eliminator. That thing had been painted five different times and was a pain in the ass. Luckly the first person who painted did not prep well so we were able to razor blade most of the top.

Need to make sure you use the really BIG fuzzy rollers too, no brushes..........Takes less time that way and leaves a stucco like texture......
