Title: 1978 holmes with 454 , need info about manufacturer

1978 holmes with 454 , i think it is a 16 foot, about to aquire it and need info about manufacturer, if anyone is familiar with this boat it has a  "wing" on the back of the transom, it is not aftermarket and is part of the boat. i have never seen anything like this before. i would be greatly appreciative of any input at all

If your HIN # starts with HWK it was built by Holmes Boat Works out of Houston TX.  According to the USCG manufacturers listing they are out of business.

Don't know that I've seen anything from that era that had a wing on the back.  I've seen a couple with a built in spoiler at the rear but not a wing. 

You'll need to post some pics of that one.

Need pics.
Does the boat sides kinda flair out about 1/3 back from the nose?

Holmes made the Horizon and it was a truly weird boat even in the 70's.  It had a spoiler built into the transom and the sides spread out wide no bubble deck back then. Probably the widest boat for it's length at the time. 

Funny story about one of those boats.  Circle races at Bluewater back about 1975 (?) one was racing down the back straight really set up light on the water when it blew over.  We figured the guy was toast but that damn boat kept going up, up, and over 360... landed back right side up and kept racing. damndest thing I ever saw.
