No a-fence but if you don't know what those are then you might not want to buy a builder

Well thought this was a place one would find information and apparently I was wrong. Been around boats my whole life and never a jet boat and for $150 thought it was a steel.

Don't be like that, it looks like a great boat and a great price. Just it can be a lot of work and a lot of headaches even if you know boats

There is a lot of info on this site if you search through old posts :)

I know it will be a lot of work and time even money but up for task. Have been through a lot of old posts and saw some bucket seat/ bench on sides and liked those. I know motor will be the biggest expense.

Where are you located? There's a few motors available in my area

What kind of motor you plan on getting? If you search on Craigslist sometimes there's some good deals on seats and motors.

Did the boat come with anything?

The boat is completely gutted and it has a berkeley jet drive not sure witch model it is. The hull is intact and so is the trailer. I was thinking of putting a 350 in it since they are so common but been seeing a lot of 454 on some blogs.

I can see why passengers would not like the cocktail seat. A bench seat would feel much safer.

The pump alone is worth it but I'd pull it and remove the intake to an take the rest to the dump... Keep looking for another better full stringer for a bit more with interior.

All of these boats are nearing 40+ years old. Finding a hull that doesn't need any rebuilding is nearly impossible. It has a good start on a pump (might need rebuilding). The first thing I would look at is the bottom, checking for a hook/rocker. Remember, these boats have had a big block sitting in them for nearly 40 years. Nothing like a 600+ lb. paperweight to push the bottom out of shape.
If the hook/rocker minimal, repair the floor, find/build a power plant for it, and find a deal on the interior. Nothing wrong with a 1/4 stringer boat, as long as its solid. Starting with a bare hull, at least you know what you've done to it, not paying top dollar for a float that lasts a weekend and THEN needs a motor, steering is tight, seats are loose, etc.
I'm on my 5th boat now, and only my first one had a running BBC (10/99). It lasted about 6 months, and lost a piston and block. I've built my own motors and pumps since then. Boats are built, not bought.
As far as power plants- I'd go with an LS first, then SBC, BBC, and BBF last (only because I have SBC/BBC parts) all depends on your wallet, and goals.
thats all I got...

Got it home and in the garage and ready to start working on it. The pump feels and looks fine. Would the saying ( if it not broke don't fix it) apply with a jet pump??

Not really, Heres why...Berk calls for .012" wear ring to impeller clearance, the last one I puled apart was at .120" ( a fawkin sh!tload of wear/clearance, and the pump would cavitate. A tight pump is more efficient horsepower. The thrust bearing is how old?, Replace it. Freshen the pump, and put the power plant of your choice in front of it. inspect/detail the impeller while its apart.
I learned the hard way...

I have a chance to get my hands on a smoking deal for a Ford 460 all marine parts included. Guy pulled out a boat and had a little water in oil but would this work in my boat if rebuilt? Let me know what you think.
