Not sure where to post this because I don't know where it will go, but here's the deal.

I just picked up this boat on a whim and not sure right now what to do with it.  So first off I would like to ask if any of you Spectra owners past or present would be so kind as to please find me and introduce yourself.   I would like to pick your brains about the good/bad of these hulls.   Right now I am giving serious thought to just doing an engine swap between my two boats and then possilbly selling one of them.   My big boat needs more power (hard to believe with a 455 I know) and the smaller boat wouldn't be too bad with the Olds in it.  Or maybe sell the hull with no power.   Or maybe sell the big one and work on the Spectra with the $.    I dunno but I welcome your input.

Besides SKEE, who else is taking a Spectra to Elsie this weekend?    Anybody?

First thing that has to happen is all new boards on trailer.    What's the hot tip for doing it?   C'mon I know lots of you guys have done this job.  Save me some pain please.

Pre measure your wood & carpet, cut them all down and cover them in your garage, drop the boat in the water for a bit, head to the parking lot and swap out the bunks, please use new hardware.
Easy as pie.

John this is how I did my trailer broads I cut all four to the right length and then I carpeted them and used stainless staples, koo all ready to go took the boat to the local launch ramp back the boat in the water tied it off change all four in about 20 minutes with new stainless hardware.

OK stainless hardware is a given.    Now somebody (besides Omar) talk to me about wood.

I've always used plain old Douglas Fir #2, hit it with some Thompson's water seal before you carpet it. Use some kick ass glue to stick the carpet to the wood too, staples suck. remember to countersink your bolt holes so the heads don't rub your hull

Thanks to turbo350,  I had forgotten all about the Spectra section over there.   In looking at a lot of those pics, my trailer looks quite a bit different.  My boat sits over the fenders with just a 1/4 inch of clearance.  All the pics of Spec 20's on trailers have the hull sitting down between the fenders.  The trailer needs a sandblasting and some other work too.   I can see some $$$ going into this project besides the boards. 
This is another reason I hope to meet some Spec owners tomorrow.  Sux that I don't have more time to get this one ready, but I will be out with the Wriedt regardless.

Had a BBQ party over at  George's today and snapped a few pics of the $1600 Spectra.   Survived the rains pretty good.  Also got a pic of my buddy George's '46 Dodge.   Needs some work but belive it or not it has a running, rebuilt and fully detailed motor.  He already has boxes of new glass, turn signals, even a working radio!   When the Roadrunner (74 four speed pistol grip w/ 380hp crate motor) [attachthumb=#][attachimg=#]is done, the '58 Caddy is next.   Then this thing.  One ugly Mopar.[attachthumb=#0531101620a][attachthumb=#0531101620b][attachthumb=#0531101621a[attachthumb=#0531101617b]
