Hey Andy .
Those freeze plugs are supposed to come out.
I dont know what that grey stuff is but IF and WHEN your block freezes, the "freeze plugs" will pop out allowing for expansion.
Did I just waste my breathe ???

It never really made sense to me that those plugs would pop out just at the right time to keep an iron block from freezing/cracking. However, I've had them come out twice--an olds after a very cold winter (90/91) and last year, a BBC, after storing the boat inside, but up at Shaver for the winter. I noticed the problem the first time out in the following spring. I had to replace them both times, but no damage to either block. According to your probability, there must be 18 poor suckers out there with cracked blocks. Maybe I should head for Vegas.

What yuh think guys?
the spring pressure is set by the distance form the retainer bottom to the spring cup face the spring pressure is at set height for the 140 lb, to close and more spring pressure more distance less pressure. No the oil is for off road use good for 500 miles or braking motors in
cost a bout $8.00 or More per quart. Spring may be installed at 1.88= 140lb 175 = 160 1.900 may be =110 you have to check installed distance to know what pressure you have and you need to check all of them you may need to shim them up or down ?. and you will need index springs to index push rods. you used the braking lube you got with cam on the lifter bottoms you should be all right with light springs and off road oil.
X2, but I really like the Comp break in addative, I use half a bottle with every oil chang with racing synthetic oil (Amsoil), way overkill, but I don't have the extra funds to build it twice..

ill take the inner springs out for break in. Ill make sure to spin the hell outta the oil pump with a drill before i stab the dizzy too. Isnt there a danger of floating the valves with the inner one gone during break in tho?
so if i break it in with something like rotella and a break in additive from one of the many manufacturers, take out the center spring, and vary the rpms, and run a nice thick wall oil filter like one of the K&N's or mobil ones I should be fine for the break in?
i dont want it spinning the pump even if im feeding water to it?
