WTB tunnel hull pickle fork project ( minus motor )!!! 19 daytona preferably .. Just thought id throw this out there and see if anybody has any leads..
I was going to build the 78 hondo hydro pickle that i have.. but after some research im finding out that its pretty much a "garage door with huge motor strapped to it" :banghead:.... so id rather put my money and time into something that can hit tripple digits and be somewhat safe >:D
so far the best deal i found is a 84 eliminator daytona, all ready to go minus motor for 8500 ..
-
Sam, there's one on performance boats less engine for $8,000. or best offer and it states he needs to sell it.
First page about halfway down, dated 9-1-11.
It has / had a blown alcohol motor in it, it does'nt state the weight of the hull but it does have a pop off.
Danny

There's a centurion tunnel on pb as well with a hurt Ford in it for 8500

Little progress pic on the scorpion..
Time to strip the layers and layers and layers of paint off this thing.. All of the pin stripping around the flames is actually thin 8th inch masking tape ( blue striping tape ) and they just cleared over it all hahah.. Pounds and pounds of paint are coming off this thing haha..

Ya i heard its been for sale on and off for a long time... Its not going anywhere now O0
-
Paint and gel is stripped, theres a nice layer of poly primer that was under it all!!
So now its time to block away.. Fix chips, gouges, low spots and Re prime
(https://forum.socaljetboats.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi40.tinypic.com%2F2a3squ.jpg&hash=b4100b588aecb6b40be6d9e979a84eead0d8f090)
Next up is going to be flipping this beast over... Any ideas ? tips, pros cons.. ? ?
-
A block-head's idea: flip it first and comlete bottom completely paint and all, then flip only have to flip one more time 'fore it sees water.
-
Thats pretty much my plan.. I want to finish the top and have it in primer.. Then flip her, paint the bottom and have that finished.. then flip her back up to do the paint on top..
-
Finished stripping all the old crap off, block sanded the primer that was underneath it, did the body work and put 2 galllons of polyester primer on her ( feather fill G2)

Ran into a lil problem..
My hand hole cover doesnt completely come all the way out of the transom :banghead: ... Im in the middle of making my transom plates and just noticed this.. Has anyone else ran into this problem or anyone have any suggestions ? or maybe even some pics of one that has this same issue ...
-
If it were my boat I would cut the transom out to clear and build a recess in the top n weld it in to seal that section further forward on the pump. Only problem is, unless you get crafty and do some flange work inside the recess the plates will have to be split horizontally instead of vertical.
SJ
-
if a pop off is in your future plan for it now. my 2 cents
-
squirtcha? on PB (dan), made his transom plates to fit this same reason. basically welded in a half section of pipe to use as a notch.

Cool build,I sent you a pm on pb!

Bolt it together with small alunum angle on the inside corners and it will add rigidity.
(https://forum.socaljetboats.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi15.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa376%2F00s-ten00%2Fcdb7a93c.jpg&hash=5714d78a04890fb301e861c7a7af6ac97f4e60ea)

ive seen guys mount these trimetric style pedals to the tunnel......but i dig kevins idea too - pretty clean.

That's what I had in mind but he doesn't wanna drill through the tunnel, and would rather just grab the stringer.
-
my drawing was a little off but i think you get the idea
(https://forum.socaljetboats.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi15.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa376%2F00s-ten00%2F4412ebbf.jpg&hash=d2cac6e2e8f534c9e58c7185f1681421169de0ee)
-
I had the same style as in Brads picture on my old daytona, mounted to the stringer and never had any problems with it.
-
Haha I'd use Visio but this was my actual drawing
-
thought I had a better one but you get the ideal

Any new updates?

And thanks for all the compliments guys 8) cant wait till thursday !!!

Yeah, that is what I thought... We have been water base since about 09 also. Same deal, hated it at first but now it is pretty cool. I think the metalics pop better with the water base.
