Desert season is upon us... well for those of us who stop boating when the weather turns. Am I the only one getting ready? Anybody have any trips planned? Where do you guys go?
-
My brother and I are both getting ready for sand season. I'm rebuilding my motor, and tranny, and my brother is doing some last minute checks and wiring. We go to glamis, we have been going since I was 3 and I'm almost 30. My brother was talking about going out for Halloween, but we always go thanksgiving Christmas/new years and Easter.
That's how I roll. I have more pics of my car and my brothers car I will post up.

There are quite a few decent deals on CL here in town.
As for my crap, I just have to prep the bug and I think I am gonna swap the oil cooler out. I may do Glamis for Thanksgiving too, not sure what toy(s) I'll be bringing though. My nephew is planning to have his wedding ceremony out there 2 weekends before. As for the hardpack... Aqua, where is this place for Halloween?

-

Never even heard of it... I'll look it up today. Is there camping areas? Good riding for kids?
-
ya awesome family fun. and the canyon store has live bands from time to time. there are a few areas right next to each other
there is jawbone canyon, then redrock canyon, then dove springs within like 20 miles from each other. there is a place called jawbone flats that is a pretty cool camp ground. that is most likely where we would be. you should come out for halloween

What is the terrain @ Rasor? MY sandcar is still pretty far from driveable... I can bring the bug but it doesn't do well in the sand.
-
The terrain is awesome at rasor...you dont need paddles in the sand and there is alot of low sand dunes...also miles and miles of trail riding...just talked to my buddy and I will be spending alot of time at rasor...looks like im buying another bike....i know of 3 nice ones for sale
-
There is everything at rasor from sand to rocks perfect baja bug territory. Most of the cars in my group are duelsports i leave the mid engine sand car at home and just bring the bike. I wanna build more of a desert car next and sell the mid engine car

When is the next trip to Rasor? I'd like to check it out for sure.
Sand trips are kind of rough on me because both of my daughters ride on 2 wheels. I have a paddle for my oldest daughters bike but the younger is still on a 50

where is this rasor place. are you talking about victorville..
we should hit up slash X in victorville that place is bad ass.....
or you guys can just all come to my house. we can ride out of my garage.. lol.. ever been out to randsberg? its a living ghost town with 2 bars for riders. its a blast especially on sundays. have some beers and maragritas then hit the trail.. you can go forever..
-
Ransberg is a great place, nothing like riding through town on your toy. I have a friend that has a piece of land in Garlock and we ride into Ransberg for beers. For sure Glamis for Halloween Thurs-Sunday morning is on the calendar, got to get home before dark Sunday to take the kid Trick or Treating >:D
-
If that slash x ride happens i would be down to go and meet some guys from the site, I have been going there ever since I was a kid with my dad. I hate to see summer end but it is always fun to ride my dirtbike :)
-
Www.rasorranch.com....tons of pictures...know the owner of the site!
-
Honestly probably one of the best places for kids...not too crowded, and some really nice small dunes...i see tons of kids out there....if we can dial in an official weekend my friend terry own the land the trees are on "willowog knows what im talking about" I can have terry rooe it off for us

No buggy here, someday though! But I do ride my 06 CR250R (yes 2 stroke!) I have not been to Glamis in 6 years, but buttercup once last season for new years. Looking forward to this season! Most of the time it would be Ocatillo because its closer, cheaper, and friend has house to take advantage of. lol

Buff still has that truck?!?!?!?
You could always save yourself the trouble of building a truck and get a super mild Baja Bug like mine... lol
-
Your baja is bad ass i have a soft spot for anything vw. Ive been in serious debate on either build another buggy or a bug. Then i went and bought a 4x4 toyota this week going to straight axle it and tryout playing in the rocks we will see how i like that.......
-
i love baja bugs.. bad ass.. i want one stilll.. but one that is street legal.. they are sick on road then when you get bored find a trail and let it fly ha

it is not Buff's truck anymore, I changed it for Jerry Larimore, he has been racing in class 1400 in it. Buff sold it to Jerry back in 2007. I finished it.

And as for Baja bug, ive wanted to find just the body to build an class 5 unlimited baja bug.. hard to find one at reasonable price!

It can be street legal if you have windshield and lights that works i.e. blinkers, driving headlights, brake and running lights! You can even street legal an tricked out sandrails with off road tires on them.
-
what year 55 or 56
Mine is a '55. If you look close it still has the cutouts for the semaphores.
-
my wife was pointing that out to me...lol She's a bug fan
-
Of all my toys... the Bug is my favorite!!! You ever go to Ocotillo Wells?
-

Let me know when you'll be there and maybe we can meet up. It's looking like my Thanksgiving will be there.
-
I'll be there then and then we may head down to Gamis....80% of the time we'll be there in the big weekends.....
-
Yeah I think I be in Ocatillo for halloween, but i dont know about thanksgiving.. maybe somewhere NEW.. dumont dunes?
-
halloween i will be at jawbone.
thanksgiving glamis.
i just picked up my buggy last night from the vinyl guy. it looks great... i will take some pics tomorrow after work. i have school tonight so i wont have time.
-
Holidays in Glamis is :screwy: people getting killed, injured, etc more than on non-holiday weekend thats why I have been staying away from GLAMIS over big weekends.
-
I don't worry so much about that. I just haven't finished my sand car. The prerunners weight to HP ratio is a little off for driving in the sand.
-
people dont die in glamis cause its dangerous. people die cause they are stupid. we have been going there for years. only problem we have ever had is amanda breaking her arm and that was all her fault. lol.
-
Alot of people think glamis is crazy like it used to be and it's not! I have been going there for the last 7 years and have seen none of the stupid shit that used to go on. They shut down comp at sundown so that keeps all the local gang bangers away. We have a friend who's 5 yr old rides all the way to the hill and the drags from gecko road all the time. Glamis has actually turned into a pretty family friendly place.

agreed.

Well I stopped going to Glamis in 2002 due to loss of friend from another buggy that ran into it, snapped his head off while his wife had to be sitting next to him headless! Yes you all are right stupid people, just like if we were on boat and theres a jet skiier cutting in front of you.
-

Thats a horrible story but on the other hand are you going to stop driving the 405 or any freeway that mtter just because someone died on it? not me. I have seen death at glamis multiple times it just makes me more aware of the situation and ride/drive different. I have been going to glamis since I was in the womb, shit I have never had thanksgiving dinner at dinning room table, I don't think turkey would be the same without sand in. So i'll never stop going they can close the place down and I'll still figure out how to run the dunes. 2 years ago my mom and step dad actually bought property out there behind boardmanville which is awesome but with all this railroad bullshit we can't ride from the property to the dunes anymore. I heard rumors of a new bridge being built at wash 10 to try to save the bar and make access to our property but I'll beleive it when I see it.
-
that is not the only reason why i stopped going, its because my group did.. mainly because it gets crowed with people that do not have toys, they're only going there to party and cause drama.. and because the sheriffs were messing with everyone non-stop, and alot of places closed up which makes it tighter space for everyone to go around. Im not saying id never go again, but thats if my group goes too. Anyways, I have been to glamis since I was five, my brother has gotten injuries there from accidents, not me though. Its just now nobody i know of goes there anymore other than gordons wells, ocatillo, pismo beach mostly now.
-
I go to Ocotillo because my girls ride on 2 wheels and I have the prerunner. Also because the hassle is a lot less. They don't bug me about registration... plus it seems to be a little more family oriented. I too have been going to Glamis since birth and will go again but not until the sand car is done.
-
the sheriff's were starting to show up more and more last year....(ocotillo) My wife get a ticket for driving on a dirt road.wft!(not mark) :banghead:

I only had them give me a second look once: Driving in the whoops next to cahuilla 3-4th gear and the ranger attempted to turn around but was thwarted by a string of motor homes. Lucky me. Other than that I have even camped with some off duty rangers and had no problems. I'd prefer to go closer to home but my family lives in Ramona, plus I'm familiar with Ocotillo.
-

thanksgiving glamis.

If all goes as planned, we will be at the new River House ;D

Ocotillo wells or Ocotillo.....two different places....I've been going to Ocotillo for over 20 years
-
My buddy as like 13 acs fence in on painted gorge. And this bother has the old house with 3 and 1/3 acs. Fun times there. ;D
-

Both really, I have been going to "FUD" races forever and Ocotillo Wells too.
-
One step closer to being ready for desert season. Last night I made a roll bar mount for my go pro. I know... I know... they sell one for $30 but I didn't think that plastic pos would hold up in the prerunner, so I built one out of sheet metal. When it is cleaned up (sanded, filed etc) I'll post a pic or two. Either way it should hopefully provide for some decent in car footage.
-
Show me! I am trying to fabricate one to mount on bars.
-
fibertech show today ;D
-
Show me! I am trying to fabricate one to mount on bars.
Didn't turn out quite as nice as I would have liked but it does have a full range of motion and I have no worries about this one breaking.
-
oh ya desert season for sure dust of the bikes and jaw bone canyon here we come me and my hill climbing junkie pals try to go at least once a month if not twice or out to carnagie its good for climbin :screwy:
-
Well, finally got out to Ocotillo Wells on Wednesday. This was the coldest trip I have ever had! Bug worked great! No problems all weekend. Had 2 run ins with the fuzz and no tickets. It was a great trip all in all.
