The rumors are true. Dad and I picked up our new Placecraft on Saturday. Tom Peterson has some crazy attention to detail and his product speaks for it's self.
This boat was the very first layed up in the new mold, it sat around for a few years untill my buddy Darin Moilanen picked it up and had intentions to build a Top Fuel Jet. When he wanted to get rid of it he knew who to call. Thanks again Darin
The boat itself weights in at 400 pounds capped and is jet black. Boat came with an MPD low profile intake set by Tom Peterson and a dolly trailer.
The new design features many improvements over the original
hull and has incorporated modern day technology to create a state of the art 19 ft. jet boat that can be used for pleasure, race or both. The new hull comes from a brand new mold that was tooled by Scott Kornowski. Due to Tom’s attention to detail and Scott’s amazing tooling abilities the new hull is straighter and has more defined body lines than the previous generation Place Craft Tunnel.
The overall length of the boat is now 9” longer allowing for the cockpit area to be 6” longer than the original design, thus giving the driver more room for gear and more importantly, more room for rigging. The other 3” was added to the nose creating a slimmer and sleeker look.
The bottom of the Peterson Place Craft features a new race style drop keel thus allowing to better load the pump with out having to run an excessive amount of shoe in the boat. Not only is this a more efficient way of loading a pump but also safer during shut down. As a safety precaution, the forward area of the center pod has been designed to incorporate a flatter radius to help the boat go straight in the event that it looses power. The new Peterson Place Craft also features a step bottom similar to what you see on most modern day large boats. The 1/8” steps are located a few feet forward of transom on the outside sponsons and on the flats next to the keel on the center pod. The drop steps are designed help free the boat up in flat, sticky water. The recesses for the cavitation plates have also been filled eliminating the need to run them. The lack of cavitation plates also provides a cleaner look to the transom of the Peterson Place Craft. Lastly, the radius's in the corners of the tunnels have also been enlarged allowing for better load displacement thus preventing cracking on the transom and in the corner of the tunnels.
Our intentions with this boat will be a center steer and strictly a Pro Eliminator 8.0 or Quick Eliminator 6.0 race program.
We will be doing all of our rigging and pump work threw Chris and Joe at B1 Racing
Our motor program will be with James Bostick at Bostick Racing Engines.
Either a race pack or edelbrock data system( not sure witch yet)
It will be a slow process, but we will keep the Socaljetboats family updated as soon as things get rolling.
There were a ton of smiles the last few days, my dad especially.

Very cool Jake! Take lots of pictures of the rigging process, I'm sure many of us would love to have a behind the scenes looks at the work required (especially if it's someone else working). ;)

Beautiful boat, nothing like starting from scratch on a build. Tom P is a true attention to detail guy; clean and simple style. He's got my pump and hull right now...
Interested to see this build in progress, thanks for the share.

Hey Jake very cool Placecraft way to go! Are you retiring the Southwind ? We are getting ready to start putting our Placecraft Tunnel together , trying to have it done sometime in October. Waiting for Harold to get an opening in his schedule and start on the bottom . I'll be posting some
Pictures soon. Take care, Wally

Not a big update, but we got a work cover made for the placecraft. Custom canvas in upland did it and it turned out great. Ran about 400 bucks and worth every penny to keep that black gel nice.

Thanks everybody for the kind words.
This weekend was a blast and can't thank brad and Brittany enough for all there support.
This weekend was about testing this new boat and really just getting a feel for it. And I can say now, it's a whole other animal than the southwind tunnel.
Now for some numbers.
1000 ft track Top Eliminator 7 second endex
License pass 1 8.08 valved and let out at half track all motor
License pass 2 7.72 out the back door all motor
License pass 3 7.74 out the back door all motor
License pass 4 7.81 out the back door all motor
License pass 5 7.39 out the back door nitrous for a few seconds for our license
In the 16 boat field this weekend we qualified number 15 and also went out first round. (After sitting on the rope for and hour wile they were fixing a censor).

good job jake.
did it take that long? what time did we start, 10:30? I know that john announced Saturday afternoon that we would start at 8:30. but didn't give any running order. since there were no differences in running order announced, one would expect the order to be slow to fast. so at 8:45, he tells us TE is first. then 10 minutes later he calls us to the lanes like we're late already. I'm not going to rush just to pacify someone else, when I might forget something and get hurt. they had all day Saturday to figure out and announce Sunday's running order.
so we are all finally at the staging lanes and start getting loaded at 9:30. only an hour late. then 2 boats go down the track and something's wrong with the sensors so we wait for 45 minutes. not upset about the sensors, but last minute running order nonsense needs to stop.
anyway, good job with it and see ya at firebird.

The go pro was flashing way over 60 minutes before I got to the out ramp.
John D need to not announce ever again. He's the reason we only got 10 minutes .

I may have been ahead of you on the rope. don't recall. I do know they were waiting an inordinate amount of time between runs, after the course was clear and water was fine.
It is not John D's fault, and he does a good job. It is someone else's responsibility to set the running order, time to start, etc. It is also someone else's responsibility to inform the tower when a class needs to be called to the lanes so it can be announced, keeping boats in the staging lanes but not creating a line 2 miles long so engines are completely cold by the time you get launched. same thing happened at the world finals, same "type" of thing happened in augusta and the lucas parker race last year. which is why a couple of us brought it up to the powers that be after the drivers meeting in vegas. At the WF's, Rick Carlson had announced Saturday at 6pm that we would start at 8am sunday morning, and that the order would be TE, QE, PM. ok, so I get out there at 6:30, get everything ready and staged, warm up at 7:30, all ready to go. then they call QE to the lanes first. QE WASN'T ready. so we stand there and watch QE boats straggle down to the staging lanes for the next 40 minutes. didn't get anything going until almost 8:45am. THEN they call PM, and finally TE. There is no reason they cannot figure this stuff out on Saturday. they already know how many boats are in each class. continuously flip flopping the running order at the last minute makes it impossible for the announcer's to keep us informed in a timely manner, and it slows the program.

Reason number 116 to avoid the track.

Reason number 116 to avoid the track.
not at all. there's no reason to avoid the track other than a person doesn't want to do it. it's not easy. all of these issues can be corrected.
-
Reason number 116 to avoid the track.
The track isn't for everybody. But I do challenge anybody who wants to learn more about there boat to try it at least once.
I've got 100 bucks says you learn more in 3 passes than a whole year at the river.
