Title: Lake Piru ?
Post by: t8017e on July 19, 2010, 10:23:56 AM
Has anyone been to Piru lately? Thinking about going out on the 30th for the weekend but curious on the water level, last time I was there it was really low.

I was there last Wednesday and it was low in the coves but I've seen it lower. no problems driving around the lake. I would go today if I could.  ;D

It is a nice lake... if ya catch it on the right day.
The water gets chopped up pretty bad most of the time if there's alot of boats or if the wind picks up.
If you come out, be sure there is NO water in your boat upon inspection at the front gate.

well instead of watching football we went to piru on new years day. the weather had been nice so my wife said we sould take the boat out.. she didn't even have to finish her sentence before i said ok!!

the water was friggen cold. the lake is low again and with 80% of the launch ramp showing. still a nice time. we were literally the last boat to leave. i would have taken more ramp photos but the ranger was patiently waiting( just out of view from the picture of my truck).

I had my old '85 Marlin tuna bowrider there many a time. Super fun, it was the only lake I could remember that allowed you to tow innertubes and have beer on the water(...don't know why it mattered, I was 17 last time I was there, maybe didn't specify you still has to be 21+) A real shit-splat, banjo playing Deliverance town you had to drive through to get there.

I'd always hit up that singular sandy beach with the stream coming from Pyramid 1st thing and set up camp. There was a really warm pond full, and I mean teaming with tadpole if you hike a ways up.

It was usually choppy after 12 and most times a lot of floating dead vegetation and sticks after it rains or comes up after being down. I will be taking the new (to me) boat there this spring and summer.

does anyone else want to admit they've been to piru lately? i have never seen it this low....never in all of my 40 years. i went on july 2 to test run the boat before our bass lake trip(which was awesome btw).
no water in the coves. had to use the backup-backup marina ramp. checkout the pics in my previous post to get an idea how low.

I grew up on that lake. I remember in early 90s that it was supper low and that launch ramp was the way you would go down to overflow camping.... But hey there's always castaic down the road
