i have been tossing the idea around about selling my boat and buying another one. the hull is in fair shape few stress marks the seats were just recovered but then went into storage and the mice got them a bit and the back seat has some cracks. it has a berk jc pump in it with the jetovator. It also has a front gas tank. The reason i'm tossing this around, is that the motor ( ford 460) developed a killer knock and now barely runs. So its either fix the motor, get one from a wrecking yard or patch it up and sell it. Is it worth putting the cash into this boat? It's also a no name brand house built copy of a Hawaiian. From what i was told it was made by a company called the boat shop in novato ca, which has to my understanding been closed since the 80s. Would it be better just to get out of this boat or keep it and fix it?

well heres my answer and it maybe different from everyone elses. boats in general are money suckers.and you will not get a good return on anything you put into it. so you have to go into it for the love of boating and that boat. if you like that boat cause you know it then theres your answer if you could care less well then there you go also. but it maybe cheaper to buy a boat done than it will be to fix and finish one. just dont expect to be able to sell it, for what you have in it.

if you're having fun, its worth it.  you could start with another hull, but it will be another mystery.  the reason i stuck with my hull (even though tahitis are traditionally the ass of the boating world) is because i know exactly what it is.  ive literally ripped EVERYTHING out of it and redone it.  floor, stringers, motor, tanks, wiring, plumbing, pump, etc.  in the end i have a boat that *I* know is safe and will last for quite a while for me and my family/friends.  its got great space for the size and it works for us.  i enjoy working on it just as much if not more as just watching it sit on the lake.  best thing is that it fits in my garage.  i know i wont get what i want for it, im no stranger to "projects"... ive owned many cars in my life that ive sunk money into and sold for market value.  no biggie thats the game. 

if you're not willing to invest the time and effort into that hull, then sure grab another one.  hulls are a dime a dozen. 

   X2, and the only thing I don't like is the front tank, just my .02

thank you on that line for that block and crank. i just got a running 460 out of a bronco from a kid up the road for $325 so i have to pass on that one tho is is a great deal
