Good evening and happy holidays to all. Last weekend picked up a project that hasn’t hit the water in a long time from my friend which is also a member on here. My other friend helped me pick it up and is currently in his backyard. I have no real way to tow it yet since I don’t want to put the ST through all that it’s a 21 ft Hawaiian. Plan is to get it started next weekend or next and hit the lake as is to see how it runs… then from there dive into the floor and center stringer repair… it has a lot of potential… Here are a few pics of it… so I’m going to have this ready for our first planned trip end of march where we have a cabin booked at pirates cove. I want to take both boats that’s the plan…

That will be a fun project! Congrats!

Awesome. Looking forward to see how it comes along. Did the wife want her own boat?

Yeah that cruiser is a lot heavier. Definitely need a bigger, more sturdier tow vehicle. Does the trailer have brakes?

I kinda surprised her with it… but yeah she wants to drive too so another boat is good especially with her parents getting older it won’t beat them up to go for a ride… yes the trailer has brakes

She will have fun with that

Yeah she should and if all fails I can always get a rail kit or a set of 4 point mounts and just swap the 455 I have into the day cruiser

Well got it started today next week gonna take it to the lake and see how it runs… then come back and start tearing into the floor and cleaning… I’m honestly surprised that after sitting for 11 years plus it didn’t even have lifter noise or a knock in the 460…

Tonight we worked on it a little more got the old gas out the tanks, checked the pickup tubes and valves, changed all the fuel lines from tanks to fuel pump, installed new started solenoid, and rebuilt a carb for it. Then turned it over it sucked fuel for one good squirt then stopped. Pretty sure it’s the fuel pump so got another one ordered will be here Thursday .., ohh and installed a fuel pressure regulator… and also Thursday the bilge pump will be here. So this Friday going to install rock grate wood for a temp floor and seats then spark arrestor and fuel pump

Well this is the set up we are floating with tomorrow finally got a fuel pump that works , bilge pump works, and got it registered, and got it to start and idle on its own. Still have to flush the tanks real good and put some better valves on it. But this is a bench mark test to see if it floats and put around

So it runs and didn’t even back fire. Got up on plane good ran it up to 45 mph and left off the gas. Has a little leak by the transom where the exhaust goes thru and logs leak a little when it meets the snail. So now going to tackle the floor and maintenance on it.

Yes yes it was now it’s time to start cutting out the floor… and address the water leak from the exhaust… I’m just glad it floated and made it around the lake

I really wished the double trash can would have held up! HA HA but yeah we had a good day for sure, quick rip around the lake. Everything was POSITIVE movement forward, now it's nasty fiberglass repair time. Hope the fog lifts so we can get more done without the moisture.

The double trash can was so cool I dug out my spark arrester

Ordered new forward reverse cable for the cruiser yesterday. Tomorrow plan is to start cutting the floor out and get it all prepped for new wood and fiberglass. I would like to get most if not all prep work done but it is a lot to get done. Also have new inspection cover seal for the Mantra and a steering extension on order as well. I will post pics of the progress over the weekend. Also have to make new boxes for the seats to sit on to mount to floor. I?m going to try to do the interior myself eventually but for now its going to look rough.

Well after getting the ST serviced today went to the shop and cut the floor out and cleaned the edges with the flapper disc. I cut out to where the floor wood was still good and that was only about 3 feet of the front

Today got some more of it ground down and prepped got resin and fiberglass on order. Thursday going to get the wood and Saturday start cutting and making it all fit together and new seat bases. Only thing else I need to order are switches for the lights and blower.

Got the switches in today and the auto bilge pump in yesterday?Tomorrow going to get the wood and this weekend gonna get all the pieces cut to fit and seat bases made. Next weekend going to pick up the truck since the weather ain?t going to be great for laying fiberglass?. But the following weekend we should be good to go with it. I?m just glad it runs decent and grateful for great friends that have helped out along the way and able to use the shop and park it while I work on it.

Nice progress. Just a suggestion here. Both of your fuel tanks are not fastened to, or book ended by gunnel supports. When tanks are only fiberglassed in, usually the fiberglass runs multiple vertical fiberglass straps where the glass is adhered to the gunnel above the tanks, over the top and down to the floor. The glass will have some bite into the tanks also. Looks like the glass is popped loose the way it is. You may want to consider structurally bracing in those tanks while you have the boat torn down this far. Keep up the good work.

Thank you it has come a long way. Got to advance the timing just a hair. We plan on running it for our trip the end of the month at pirates cove and then the season kick off as well. Then after that we are a buena vista and I?m taking both boats there which should be fun. I don?t know for sure but possibly by next spring I have to make a decision on which one I?m going to keep moving forward. Have a storage for both the Mantra and the Hawaiian, because can?t park them at the house?but who knows I maybe able to swing both just depends.

So next weekend gonna be the first test? I plan on going from pirates cove to havasu landing for the day? I?m going to do a little test run up river on Friday to make sure we make it? on my other boat the mantra we took it out day before Xmas Eve and ran that boat literally all day on the delta with water in the oil and was like if it don?t breakdown I?m keeping it.., so if the cruiser does a good job and I grow attached to it I may have to cut back on smoking cigs more to be able to keep the storage unit?
