Nobody left to teach them, mostly.

My kids'll do it, not goos at it, but enjoy it, But lets be honest, today even our "family" boats have progressed into extreme MPH monsters.

Kinda why I keep the Charger around. Back in the day, when I was learning to ski, my Unc thought it was great if we "Nephews and Nieces" survived his roosts and 55 or so MPH in his Olds powered Sidewinder! (Unc is a COMPLETE motorhead. This was back in '77 or so and these things rarely did 50 MPH).

ONE TIME he was towing both his wife and daughter at Saguaro Lake, who kept giving the thumbs up for more speed, and he didn't have any more to give.

He sold the Sidewinder on Monday, bought a new Biesemeyer 18' hull by Friday, and had built a 500HP 454 for it by the following Friday.

He NEVER got a thumbs up again......ever........until the day he sold the boat in 1996...... His reasoning........ "Nobody will EVER ask me to go faster than I can"........

The ones into Jet Boats these days are all about 'Hitting 80+ MPH' , Wheelies and Roost. These youngin's forget what it's all about and why they exist in the first place.

Crewcheif is the exception to the rule, as am I. But we, and MRS Crewcheif, remember what the boats were built for and why.

I still ski, every year. not far (as I used to)
Taught the wife to pull a skier. She's even pulled me on a slow day @ the river (shhh!, no observer...) I've taught several kids how to ski, even pulled a wakeboarder before.
My old man could dry start on a single ski, and make it look easy, he skied well into his 50's (Thanks Dad)

That's all I got

When I was a kid both my parents skied every other weekend.
When I bought my boat it came with a Connelly single ski... I've been really wanting to get that thing out! This might be the year it happens.

I'm 20 now so I can't say I'm a grown up yet but when I was a kid my dad gave us 2 choices you could ski or hold the flag and there was never a wakeboard to be found in our camp. But now it's like pulling teeth to get people to go out with me because my boat doesn't put out a monster 3 foot wake. But I can honestly say my favorite memory was from last summer skiing behind my own boat with my old man pulling me

I'll throw the ski prop on the whacker for anyone who wants to ski behind a boat with no wake this weekend....early
Morning runs (not too early...around 7 or 8 maybe).  Just, when you're done, we gotta see if it'll drag my fat ass outta the water on the old Connelly Rocket.

i pulled amanda around on a single ski last weekend. As for me i kinda like the barefoot stuff. i just need to practice it more and amanda is not too comfortable pulling me at the faster speeds.

anyway My kid will be keeping it old school and single skiing before he learns how to wakeboard

I just went a bought a Maha 360 last week from a lady in Glendora.  I don't know if any of the skiers here now the ski, but it's a super nice ski for us old guy's who grew up skiing and aren't ready to just float and drink all weekend.  I started wake boarding a couple years ago.  It's fun, but I suck at it, lol.  I'll keep trying and learning on the board, but skiing is what I grew up doing, and will continue to do.

What's so great about skiing

I wouldn't try to make a case for skiing being better or worse than wakeboarding, but it is fun as hell.  It is just the evolution of things, similar to how boards have taken over the ski slopes in winter.  Now snow boards I have a real problem with as they get in a slalom skier's way both on the lift and going down the hill.  More importantly however is their unpredictability and complete inability to stop in a hurry.  This endangers everyone around them.  On the water, wakeboarders only endanger themselves but they do tear up smooth water.  However, they have no problem with using rough water where a slalom skier will only want to ski on the smooth stuff.  Honestly it is usually the ridiculous stereo hanging off the tower that bothers me the most.  I HATE having to listen to other people's music when I am out on the water.

My 9 year old has zero fear on the slopes.  If he skis half that hard, I will be one proud Papa.  I have a big framed picture of me dragging a shoulder at the river.  He is gonna have a pretty high bar to clear, but I think he will be able to do it if he chooses to take up a ski instead of a board.  I am not going to buy a $40,000 boat to go slow in however.  Not now, not ever.

I'd have to agree with GC in the sense that it is just a different animal. I have ski'd, knee boarded, single ski'd, tubed, and wakeboarded. I think kids should still try skiing, but water sports just like everything else evolve. About the snow boarding thing I don't know. I've never had a problem stopping fast on a snowboard personally. I've also only been hit snowboarding by a tiny asian girl on ski's lol.

Once I get my post fixed up (headers will melt rope right now, need a higher connect, one of those that bolts onto the back of the motor I think) I'll pull any of you fellows behind my boat :D

I'd actually love to try and get up on a single ski, maybe I'll have to try that this summer (it's been sooooo many years)
