Shirl,

You were voted to be the voice of the class. Create a proposal for a new rule, take a vote, and bring it to Ted and make it law. Also, you have my vote to require him to get pumped in order to race again. Not after the race, but before. Ron got bumped out of a qualifier because someone admitted to running a 525 after the race. Yes he lost his trophy and points for the weekend, but Ron got robbed of running the main event.

I don't know what rules if any have been been broken with his driving habits, but you are the 3rd person I've heard say that he's unsafe. If this is true, then we need to stand by our rules and not let him get away with it. From what I see is he drives where he wants regardless of lane assignment and forces everyone to try to drive around him. How that tank is outrunning the class is proof his motor isnt legal in the class.

Bottom line is that boat AND motor are going to be the end of this class.

If you don't want to put your foot down for whatever reason, I have no problem taking it up the chain and shutting his program down.

I apologize for the confusion - the mention of Ron getting bumped was from a previous race several years ago. I was using it as an example of why it should be protested before, not after the race.

I will give Terry a call and see if I can rattle his cage for some answers or direction. I am not up to date of the politics with SCSC apparently no longer being governed by the APBA. It seems a lot of the rules are in limbo.

Seems to me... kind of an outsider in the circle race world, but still racer in different organizations... if you have a cubic inch limit as part of the rules... and there is suspect by any one in the organization be it racer or official... they should be tested... period. No ifs... no ands... or buts. Doesn't matter who it is or whatever... and if they are not legal... then buh-bye. Otherwise there is NO reason to have such a rule... as if one can go unchecked... all should be able to... and thus negating the point of having the rule in the first place.

As for safety concerns... either you self police and keep wrecks and injuries down to a reasonable, acceptable level for the sport... or someone else is going to police it for you... and that always ends up going in the direction of hurting the class... cost... and boat counts.

Don't see too many open cockpit blown fuel flats out there anymore... huh?

The SCSC Comp Jet rules were written by Terry and are the same as APBA with some wording changes to avoid plagerism.  I am good with that for the time being.  We have a money paying race at Lake Pleasent, AZ in February.  I think it should be manditory that all Comp Jets submit to this test or at least the top 3 winners.  I do not know who has a P&G device, do you?  I would sure like to have one available there.  The first order of business is to verify compliance with existing rules.

Brad, I sent you an email, did you get it...

I have access to one, but I'm pretty certain it's a 500" one. I'll make some calls to see if they have a 670".

Those things aren't cheap.

I have a buddy that works for a dirt track,  I'll hit him up too. Unfortunately, I think most of their stuff is either 305", 360" or 410".

Let you know by Monday.

Can't keep one class loaded with competitors.  How difficult would it be to feed another class?

Just a observation.

CJ 702 has refused to a PNG Test (cubic inch test) and has been banned from the class until he submits to a test. His response was "f**k your compjets and shove them up your ass".

Guilty as sin IMO. Good riddance.

He actually raced in the GPS100 class's first heat on Sunday. Rumor has it he broke out and wasn't welcomed back, so then he went to the GN final which was only 10 laps (normally 20) and got his ass handed to him. Rumor has it they weren't happy he was out there with him either.

Wonder how it feels to get kicked out of 3 classes in one day?

Curious to what the status is on this class for 2018 now that the 702 boat is apparently gone? Has there been any discussions, plans, petitions etc. for rule change implement to prevent another entry of this type from causing disruption to the class safety and participation? Has there been any conversations between the regular class participants to resume racing and fielding a full class for the March race at B.W.? This class was the king of the show for a while and really fun to see the great head to head competition and growth. What's the future look like currently for this class?

He's not gone. We were told he wasnt going to be at Thanksgiving, but he still showed up. There would have been a legal class if it was know he was going to show up. But instead he ran GPS 100, sank ANOTHER boat on the course. Class rep of GPS100 kicked him out for good....but when Shirl tried to kick him out of compjet earlier last year, Ross was quick to pull Shirls authority away from him making that call.

Until that hull is ilegal to run in the class, I have no interest in participating or promoting this class.

Thanks for the reply Brad. You say he's not gone, does that mean his motor has been P&G'd and found to be legal? Is he still banned until he submits to a test? With the trouble created in the other classes by this boats displacement etc. do you think Ross is starting to see this as a bigger issue than just the CJ class dissatisfaction? Do you think he is becoming more open to hearing and considering the complaints from all class participants? Has there been continued discussions within the CJ class participants to make rule changes to limit or prevent these type hulls into the class for participant safety etc.? Are the class meetings open to the general public or are they for active members only?

Here's how things went..

At the races in March 2017, 702 was caught pulling away from the class then sand bagging just enough to stay out in front. Instead of singling him out, there was a collective agreement to P&G the top 3 boats Sunday morning. When Billy was approached by Shirl Sunday morning he was very defensive. Billy said "You're not touching my motor - fuck your class and shove it up your ass". Shirl responded with that he was not allowed to participate in CompJet until he submitted to the test. (I was right there and heard all of the above with my own ears). He then went on to race in GPS100 (he broke out and was asked to leave that class) then the GN class for the final on Sunday.

At the Long Beach race in 2017, 702 boat showed up. Shirl was not able to make it to the venue Saturday to enforce his ruling on CJ702. He raced in the class on Saturday without submitting to a P&G test as required by the class rep. I addressed this with Ross and his response was that our class rep has no say so weather a boat can or can not participate in our class. I explained to him the situation and he didn't care. Because the Long Beach race was a national, the 702 boat was required to be tested at the end of the day Sunday. I stood there and watched - there was many inconclusive tests. I could see the person performing the tests getting impatient. They concluded its was a 470-something cubic inch motor leaving many of us scratching our heads. The person performing the tests basically said 'sorry, I got more important classes to go test'.

So let me ask this and let it sink in: How does a 470 cubic naturally aspirated motor in a 21' boat break out in a GPS100 class?

There is some speculation that he showed up to long beach with a smaller motor since he knew he would have to face a test.

So there was 3 boats on the roster to show up to Thanksgiving 2017. When it was relayed to the class that the 702 boat would not be showing up, the class was cancelled. 2 of the boats still wanted to come race and asked if they could run in the GPS100 class. Ross said no. The 702 boat shows up anyways and is allowed to run in the GPS100 class, where he sank another boat with his big wake. The class rep of the GPS100 class then banned him from the class.

So why was Shirl's ruling overruled, but the rep from GPS100 was allowed to ban him?

There is many unanswered questions above. I am done arguing about it - I just want some consistencies. This class is a joke and will die if this boat continues to ridicule the class and make it a laughing stock.

From what I gather, people in the class don't want to do anything about this hull. I have yet to hear anyone other than myself really speak up about it. Terry is over it and said hes done racing, same with Shirl - he sold his boat. I am done until that hull is not legal in the class.

What is it going to take for Ross to acknowledge that the class is in shambles because of this boat? All Ross cares about is boat count. He thinks we need the 702 boat but it is the complete opposite.

For the record - I am not trying to ban Billy. He may be a jerk, but I agree that we need racers. I think the hull should not be legal. The hull is not in the spirit of the class. If Billy made a legit compjet boat, I would be all about it. His Catalina ski race boat has no place in our class.

Ok, thanks Brad for the info. Are there any other associations hosting a comp jet type class currently? I guess it's a wait and see what happens type situation currently. Sorry to hear it's still bit of a challenged situation. Are the CJ'S not allowed to run GPS100 at all or was that just a single event situation where Ross denied the 2 boats entry? That call seems confusing to me. I was under the impression you could run just about anything in GPS 100 so long as you didn't break out of the speed limit. (note: I have not read the rule book)

SCSC is the only org that recognizes CompJet Circle Boat Racing.

I dont know what the rules are for GPS100. I assume the same, but also, I have not read the rule book. I am not sure why the 2 boats were denied and 702 was allowed - thats a question for Ross.

Thanks again for the info. Brad. I hope this all gets resolved soon and the CJ class can resume its flourishing and highly competitive   and entertaining status in circle boat racing. I'm sure, like you, all the other racers with boats sitting idle for now are really frustrated and looking for an equitable solution to this situation so you can resume racing and having fun. It seems a class rule update to limit hull configurations and maybe even lengths is in order to keep the playing field more safe and level so to speak. They have them in the flat bottom classes, seems this is essentially no different.

crap like that.

Surprised he found a helmet to fit...
