Looking for a little advice. I'm in need of a new fuel pump, as of now I'm torn between a Holly Red or Carter. I'm running an all stock marine power sport pack, but looking to do minor mods to the eng. in the future, nothing too crazy . Pros and cons between the two?

When I was selling speed parts the Holley Red pump didn't come with a regulator, and by the time you got a regulator you could get the Blue pump with regulator for not much more.

The red pump will be fine, but I'd recommend getting the blue pump just to make sure you have enough flow and pressure for any up grades you might do in the future.

The Carter pump is fine for a street application but won't flow enough for a jet boat in my opinion.

Check your oil pressure switch before you decide the fuel pump doesn't work. Marine power plays tricks, take some alligator clips and jump your pump from the battery and make it buzz.

With a bow tank in mine, it had 18'+ of fuel line, and a Gen VI BBC, no mechanical fuel pump provision, had to be electric. The electric worked fine, transom mounted. Fuel pressure never dropped below 6 psi. It would pull 5500 rpm on a worn pump and 5200 on a tight pump, 71.8 mpg best gps.
Most tanks I've seen draw 'over the top'

I've read this in other threads, and will try it. I'm having issues with my ride, and people I've talked to (the way I describe it) say I could be having a fuel delivery problem or even possibly vapor lock. So I figure start with the fuel pump, and go from there. I'm considering a Carter cause that's what on there now (easy to replace), just not sure how it will handle minor mods. If I go with a Holly I'll have to find a new area to mount the pump being that its gravity fed
Lil more info bout the boat, its a 2000 Carrera 202xr all original and stock marine power sport pack only getting bout 4600 RPM's (Is that normal), American Turbine AT-309 pump with inducer rebuilt last season by GS marine. Well mine wont run for more then 30 mins and Holley is saying its because the pump is not below the bottom of the tank (which it is), Fuel filter is clogged (its brand new), or its pulling the fuel and over heating.  so I am gonna ditch it and go mechanical.

You can start by installing a fuel pressure gauge.

I'm not sure if or even know where to begin if I were able to switch to mechanical. After reading a lil about em it almost seems like a better way to go! I'm pretty green when it comes to mechanical stuff. I can replace parts like a mother f#cker, but trouble shooting is a whole different story.

Would it be over kill to put a in line fuel filter on both tanks, or should one going to the carb suffice?

Left tank to (another) filter, to fuel switch
r/l fuel switch to elec fuel pump, to carb
In have spin on filters on mine, Bob did it.

On mine each tank has a inline filter before the switch then the water fuel separator then to the pump.

Make sure your water fuel sep is at least 3/8 npt (1/2 fuel line). Lots of info on just a simple 1/4 to 3/8npt on water sep for fuel pressure increase. You may also just use that for filter and up to a 21 micron. I chased a fuel issue for a while and tried both electric/ mech. The more filters and smaller rubber fuel line(3/8), the more restriction. Most tanks are at least -8 3/8npt and having a 1/2 fuel line from tank to pump will make it seem like you moved your tank closer to engine. I added stainless spring inside some tight corner fuel line to keep them from collapsing. I run a carter mech on my ford....

On my pos I ran from the tanks to my water separator, a filter just after my separator and a filter before the carb. All half inch line.

Thanks for everyone's info! So here's what I came up with so far. Jumped on the Holley band wagon 750 dp, carter fuel pump, and inline fuel filters before the switch. And what do you know, she fired right up! Gonna need some help fine tuning the girl though. Big accomplish for me, not knowing what the hell I'm doing. Gonna try and post pics

Edit... Been drinking a wee bit.

The switch in question is a POS.

There is a better switch out there,I will get you the part number.

I would also recommend installing a second switch for emergencies.

Ohhhh, you meant the oil pressure switch...

Does yours have three terminals?

Do you know what the third one does?

The third wire goes to the coil "-" terminal and grounds out the coil.. 

IMHO, you would be wise to wire in a cube relay to eliminate the parasitic voltage drop from the long wire runs, then run the third terminal (silver) to another cube relay powering the relay with the "I" terminal on the starter solenoid, this powers the fuel pump before there is oil pressure for more trouble free starting...
