i need some help with a synthetic oil question.
my new boat came with synthetic oil and i've had the dealer do the service since but i'm going to do it myself now.

do you have to use the same synthetic brand every oil change or can you switch brand according to that weeks autozone coupon?
same question for my truck(gas).
you know how cheep i am.

What about going from synthetic to synthetic blend? Just to save a bit....

i'm new to synthetic and i didn't want to seize my motor just to save 20 bucks.

Save yourself some real money (and spend it on quality oil filters!) and stop using synthetic oil.   Run normally, the motor will never get real hot and if you change it at the beginning of each season, you will never run the risk of using it the equivalent of 3,000 miles like in a car.

I dunno, I'm kinda sold on the expensive synthetics...............they milkshake right along with the best petroleum based products out there!  AND take more money outta my wallet when they DO IT!

The only problem with switching from synthetic to dino and back is oil leaks...I am a once you start never stop when it comes to synthetics...

The reason is actually pretty simple...The molecular structure of synthetic oils is actually smaller than that of conventional dinosaur piss.

That being said, the synthetic tens to cause some very minor oil leaks when the switch is first made, normally goes away in a month or two....

The other issue is some synthetics simply wont mix with conventional oils (mostly paraffin based oil)...

I would definitely agree on the running of a better filter, but I am a firm believer in synthetics (some of our dyno runs have proved it to be worth some HP too)..The biggest difference for us was oil return control and temperature control...

This subject can be debated forever however.....
