While sitting in the garage looking at the pile of spare parts, and being really mad about my alt mounting (don't ask  ).  I had an idea  .  What do you guys think about this to adjust the ride plate

 I was thinking about using longer bolts for the 2 outer bowl to suction housing bolts and adding a bracket there to mount these old cav plate adjusters.

 It puts the adjusters at an angle (not sure about that), but they would be at opposite angles kinda like this \ / .  here's another shot .  What do you guys think, will it be strong enough

I think your on the right track Jeff.  The fact that the turn buckles will be \ / shouldn't be a problem.  I'd also suggest adding some stiffeners to the rideplate, as you have more of a potential for flex with turn buckles than you do with a fixed yoke.


edit: I may change my opinion if the angle on the turnbuck is past center

I actually used that same piece on an early setup on the little boat, retrospectivly I would have added stiffeners like I mentioned above

 Ok, Josh .  You got me on that one, what do you mean " if the angle on the turnbuck is past center " .  This is kinda what I had in mind  .

Propless, you can drill into the JC bowl a little ahead of the narrow point and mount adjusting links there. The process of locating the points was explained to me several years ago by Jack at MPD. I ended up finding a split bowl before I drilled my C bowl. I seriously recommend calling him for the information as the setup you are contemplating lacks much strength due to the severe angles. You really want the mounts on the plate very close to the end.

Lookin' good--when will you be ready to go to the lake? I know that most Sanger Jets came with the distinctive round transom cover and a short 4" or so ride plate that was braced to the transom with turnbuckles like you have suggested. Probably not as much leverage as your application, but personally, I think it would look pretty clean. Probably would need stiffeners for the ride plate.

Or you could use one of these and drill two small taped holes in the bowl at the neck and be done with it. Just give Duane at HTP a call and be done with it. Simple 10 minute job (once you have the cradle, of course)



My bowl is also drilled to accept this cradle (2 set screws on either side of pin).

I was thinkin the same thing . Most of the plates that I've seen , have the support at the furthest point back .



You might not be pushing it fast enough for it to matter though . I dont really know if it matters in your case . The HTP piece looks like your best bet and it mounts in the ideal spot . I'm almost willing to bet that that will be excactly where the plate will end too. The only thing I dont like about turnbuckles is when adjusting them , you never really know if your level . With the saddle type , you can add or subract shims as needed . Just my preference and view though . Your kickin some ass Jeff.
