Hey Guys,
hope all is going well. i am new to these boards, however my brother in law is on here somehwere, he has a 18ft carerra with a 454. i got my first boat a couple of weeks ago. seems to be a great buy for 3500. i bought it from a boat mechanic, so i was pretty comftrable with the purchase. i am just kind of curious your thoughts on the boat for the price, etc..... i need to put on some cleets. what is the best way of doing this? anyways just wanted to say whats up. take care.

That boat is clean and a whacker will always be higher priced than a "comparable" jet.
Hit up Tom at JBP about your diffrent options when it comes to cleats.
Personally, I like the pop ups cuz when you or the woman are scamblingon the deck or gunnels of boat for any reason other than tieing off, the standard cleat will take your toe OFF!
The pull ups are the best of both worlds in my opinion.

Speaking of which, I have 4 pop-up cleats I bought thinking I was gonna put on the Moo........Where are they? hmmm.........when,, and IF I find them, I'll send ya pics. They're brand new with the trim rings.....somewhere......  Now I'm working cranium O/T.............

And I agree Beerjet, I like the boat, just was funnin'. (Best boat I'd been on a LOT when I was a kid was an airboat on the Ohio River!) Still want one of those!

i have 2nd and 3rd degree burns on the bottom of my feet from the hot asphalt if you can believe that. the skin graph came off my head! it was either that or my thigh.......i dont know if i am regreting the decision yet

i would definetly be down to buy some cleets off of you Ray, if that is what you were implying =)

how hard is it to install them? do they need nuts on the underside of the fiberglass?

When you get into pop  up style cleats, the area that actually "pops up" has to be cut in the top of your deck.
Bit of a heart breaker but if you buy some nice hardware it will be a huge benefit in the end.
I just hate the standard toe killers.

when you say hardware..are you talking cleets or the hardware used to keep them in place or both?

what would you recommend?

Here's what I have, somewhere. Not gonna be able to save you much from what they cost now though! lol (Obviously they got cheaper than when I bought them!) I don't think this includes trim rings, but they aren't necessary. I bought them just in case.

sweet. and after looking at the pictures i still dont understand how the fiberglass would need to be cut.....it looks like for the back ones i would have to take the interior out and put some nuts on the bottom side of this...

is it for certain that the fiberglass has to be cut....
i am probably going to pull the trigger and pick these things up.

could i roll this hot foot with an outboard? seems like it can be done. how would you get it neutral to start it and all that bs though.
it is ugly as hell but i would for sure love to have one.

Also, my steering is STIFF/HARD it turns to the right very easily, However, to the left is like a job on its own. could this be due to non-hydraulic steering. if so, what options do i have?

You'll have to be very careful when anchoring your "foot throttles" to the floor so as to not screw through the bottom of the boat assuming you put it on your right .
Not to mention, how do you feel about pushing a gas pedal with your left foot?

It looks like you are using a typical teleflex steering cable.
Tom has those in stock by the pallet load and CHEAP!
There is no loosening those up.

is teleftlex a type of steering set-up? like hydraulic would be? i really am not into it. i dont think the wife would be able to drive the boat if she wanted too. would a worn out cablebe the reason it steers easily right and not left? is it possible to convert to a hydraulic system?

lol about the pedal setup. you know, it seems like i have to push the throttle stick litterally all the way do to start getting power. i wonder if i could push it down more if i push it down more. is this normal to have to push it ALL THE WAY DOWN?

Teleflex is a brand of steering system, Rack and Pinon type (Pulls the cable when you go one way and pushes the steering when you turn the opposite way. Your steering is tight because the inner metal cable is seizing inside itself or the steering rack is bad. Its best to replace the system if you are having problems. Cables can break while underway, then your just screwed. 

Why would you want to go to a Hydraulic Steering? Just another "Device" to have problems with.

The Throttle control may not be adjusted right, you may not be getting to "full throttle" if the cable is not setup correctly.

thank you for this info....i think i should fix both.......first the steering system....something easy? a beginner could do? mabye a good start for me......

ya the throttle control does not seem to be adjusted right....however i may be wrong i just don't know. i guess it is fast enough the way it is for RIGHT NOW anyways, i have to get use to the law of the waterways first.

how would i know what kind of steering system i would need to get....should i just look under the steering wheel and follow the cable?
