 Or anyone ealce that knows about outboards.  What size (diameter/pitch/number of blades) prop should I look for to use on my Daytona ?  It had no prop when I got it and the seller had no idea what had been on it.

 I read bkplesh's post about props in the V drive section, but I dont have any numbers (speed/rpm) to start with.  So, I need a good starting point.  Heres what I know about the boat / motor ,  21ft Daytona (light lay-up),  old Merc black max 300hp motor 3.4L (5500rpm MAX, from what I was told ? ),  propshaft is 3 or 4 inches below the keel/center sponson (no low water pickup),  motor is set back 7 inches from the transome,  propshaft is 15 spline.

 Other than that I have no idea

I've got a four blade 26 pitch bravo I and I love it for all around use cause I always load my boat up with shit and it hauls ass...Offshore has 23'pitch 3 blade on his 250 and it hauls ass on top end but slips a little when weighted down...You lookin' for top speed haulass with two people or weighted down with soda's people and shit like mine always is?    Oh yea...you can pm Brad to change yer name...

the best way is to go to a prop shop. See if they will let you try a few before you buy one. But I think a 24p or 26p three blade 14.5 or 15 would be a good start.

If you go to a 14.5x28 should be like 70+

     I dont think so, if I turn the flywheel by hand and mark the propshaft, it takes somewhere between 1.6 and 1.7 turns of the crank to equal one full turn of the propshaft.   I just went out and checked again, definitly less than 1 3/4 turns.

  Yea,  We'll see about that  .   If this thing dosn't realy impress me, it (the motor) will get sold and the boat WILL get the BBF  .   But Im trying realy hard to keep an open mind about this thing, and I will give it a chance.

Boat is 21' light lay-up (it is only about 1/8'' thick by the fuel fillers). I havent seen another one like it, there was a thread on HB with lots of pics of Daytonas and mine looked to be different than the others.  Little 3/4 x 1 1/2 in stringers, 1/4 in supports under the bow for the deck, no supports on the sides.  It was built to be light.  With the exception of the 2 huge 23 gal fuel tanks .
 
 The only info I was ever able to find on the motor was a verry old thread on S&F that said 300hp at 5200 rpm and 5500 rpm MAX.  So with the 1.6 to 1.7 gearing and the fact I cant turn the kind of rpm you guys can I should need a higher pitch prop, like 28 or more, right ?

After the last polishing session its looking realy good !! And it has a steering wheel now, and the helm is mounted  . As well as new throttle cable and new shift cable .Thanks Tom / JBP

with a lite lay up, it should be in high 70's with a 28p prop. But if you had a new 300x on it, it would be in the high 80's to low 90's with a 28p also (300x or 300sx)with a 30 or 32p prop maybe into the 100's. the old 300's arent like the new ones, but still better then a jet The old 300's were for the fisherman. But we all know that those guy like to run fast too. Be if your not happy with the boat or motor you can give it to me. I want a close deck boat

Grrrrr ,  acording to the prop calculator I would need a 40p prop to break 100 and than it would idle at 13mph  I dont think thats going to work .     I need a transmision on this thing !!!

LOL ...  I have to admit it did look a littly sanfordish around here last sunday ( 4 boats and only 1 that works  ), but in my defence , one of them is Jetaholics (yea his stupid thing is still here and in my way, hint hint, its been a loooong 2 weaks). And the new one was getting torn apart for parts, not getting fixed.  So , realy only 2 of the boats count .

 Name change, Merc racing shirt ??  Yea..... dont hold your breath on those buddy. I just dont think I'll be able to get along with that 2 smoker for long, but we will see  .

 Sorry Mr Warlock Sr ,  Its not ready for the water yet  . But I have been doing some work on it, fixing wiring and lots of other little things. I was going to start on the int this weakend but I found something ealce I need to do  ,  Dont worry progress is being made  .
