Isn't Perris very strict on over transom exhaust too? The other boat we had was over transom and i just remember hearing that you shouldn't go there. So i never tried. Is that true?

Water level is waaay down and they are keeping it there apparently.  Work on dam is done for now, but they don't have the money to finish it, and don't have the water this year to fill it anyway.  The 5 mph zone is everything east of the island which means there isn't much room left to play in if there are even a few boats out.  I still go out occassionally because it is close and not many people there mid-week.
They WILL however be checking your float for Q mussels which is a big hassle.  If you have ANY WATER WHATSOEVER in your bilge they will turn you away.  Then you will head to Elsie like everyone else.

I am sure we will be going out mid-week sometime soon.  I will post up when we do but I am sure it will be a last minute decision.  Vacation, errr unemployment, is good like that.

I remember Perris having a 35mph speed limit, so you had to cruise slow then mash it on the opposite side of the island from the Patrol boat.

Elsinore has a high speed zone bouy'd off in the center but on the weekends its 35mph in the speed zone.

Are you new to the area?  They have drained the water level down 30% of where it has been for decades, supposedly for repairs to the dam and assessing the possibility of even raising it.  The water level has been dropped 25 vertical feet and the docks have been moved 65 feet further away from the tops of the ramps.  They have been doing "environmental impact reports" for two more than 2 years and still aren't done.  Construction isn't supposed to even start until 2013 with completion set for 2016.  Much of the area behind the island is shallow enough to stand in.  In some places you won't even get your shorts wet.  Proceed with caution.

You heard Elsinore was dirty?  Uhh really?  Define "dirty".  Perris is the place that gets closed down on a regular basis for a high e.coli (poop) count.  Only the fish get sick at Elsie, but ya you can't feet in ankle deep water.  Each place has its own individual "charm".  I say do 'em both !

Lake Elsinore isnt that bad. Just dont drink the water.
If i remeber correctly its 35mph during the summer as the high speed zone is closed but during the winter and in the high speed zone you can put it to the wood for about a mile...

I think all So Cal lakes are 35 mph.  It is no big deal to bust an occasional faster romp, just don't be don't attract attention to yourself by being too loud.
You will never feel like a loner in Coors Cove.  That place is never empty and most folks are friendly, especially if you bring beers .

If you are coming from MoVal you can easily go to either end of the lake to launch.  Main St. offramp for the new city owned ramp.  It is much closer to Coors Cove but if you obey the ski pattern you need to head west before going east.  Proceed with caution.  Or you can go to the west end and use Elsinore West Marina.  Very flat ramp but very slick in the summer.  DON"T back in further than you have to if you don't have 4WD.  This is a campground with store, showers, and a large parking lot.  Beware the Ramp Nazi in the golf cart.  Just do whatever he says and no one will get hurt LOL.  Its his world and we just boat in it.
In the summer you never know how the lake will be staffed with Sheriffs and volunteers that love to find reasons to dial the "bat phone" and have you hassled at the docks by guys with badges.  Although usually when you see the volunteer pontoon, it is because they are pulling your broke ass float back in.  Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em I guess.
It is my understanding that "the speed zone" is now only open upon request kinda thing.  I believe it is only during the week, and you have to get clearance or a pass or some shit.  They talked about a lot of different things a few back, can'r remember exactly.  Regardless, it is out in the very center of the lake and well marked.  Look both ways before crossing is good advice here.  Have a good time, just pretend it is Mexico, and don't drink the water.

Good info to know...i did the gps on my phone last trip out on the boat and got 49 at 4100rpm so I know I have plenty left but didn't want to try anymore so I wouldn't get busted...and I think I will launch out of west because my neigbor is the guy that runs it.. But the speed zone is where I will be for awhile to see what my float will do! And I hate being towed in...had to be done last time out when my fuel pump took a sh**
