was wondering what you guys are using on your setups. going to change mine (chincey azz chain welded to tongue of trailer). i was thinking of changing to cables. what do you guys think? and what size of chain and what size of cables do you recommend. thanks

Probably a 1/4" cable....ill probably take some heat for this but right now im not running a safety anything...but man it looks nice....i will probably do a cable swap as well

I have cables on all of our boat trailers. They work killer, but need to be DOT rated. I believe mine are all over 3/8" and have hooks with clasps.

The advantages of running cables are that they remove a major part of human error with the chains, plus they make no noise whatsoever.

An added benefit is that they stay snug, so there is little chance of them ever coming off accidentally.

thats what i want is the hooks with clasps and the cable with the rubber casing over it. so at least 3/8" cable. where would i be able to find this "DOT" rated cable at? and as far as attaching the trailer end on the cable with the loop how would i want to do that? i was thinking maybe some grade 8 stainless bolts through each side of the tongue to hold on the loop at the end of each of the cables?  i could be way off base. thanks

Stay away from stainless hardware...I would go grade 8 if you must bolt them...Mine all have welded loops to the trailer and I use the threaded chain links to attach them, works bitchen.

right on, thanks GT. gonna do this before summer hits. i like the loops welded to the trailer then threaded chain links idea. probably go that route. dont want to drill any holes if i dont have to. thanks

ive been loking online and found some 36 inch coiled vinyl coated cable with clevis hooks. now i have 2 choices on either two 5000lb or two 7000lb cables. im thinking the two 5000lb'ers should be more than enough but what do you guys think? its for my '74 19foot hallett bubbledeck on a tandem axle trailer. dont know how much my setup weighs so just wondering what you guys think on which cables to purchase. thanks
