You don't have valve guides or push rod guide plates?  The valve guides are not replaceable, they can be knurled or guide liners can be installed, but both need to be done by a machine shop.

Why are they apart?

Have they been tested for cracks?

Have you had the valves/seats done?

The safest thing to do would be to have Dave at A&D check and assemble them.

Are you sure crew? I did a set of 781's I know they are knurled and you can have liners. But I thought that they could be pressed out and new ones could be installed. The 781 and 049 are almost identicle.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe mine were just lined!

But I agree with crew, def. have them checked first.

BBC valve guides  ARE REPLACEABLE !    but........

1. They are tapered and can only be removed and installed one way...or you will crack the heads.

2.  The guides block the water jackets , so with that being said....I PREFER using guide liners so that you do not disturb
the factory guide and possibly have a water problem.

3.  IMO the factory guide should only be replaced as a last resort.

--------hope this helps------- ;D  FORGOT TO ADD...YOU CAN MACHINE GUIDES FOR OVERSIZE VALVE STEMS  :sly:

Thanks Dave...

I knew that they could be removed, but have always been told to not replace them.

Good info
