On a sad note 
  I've been spending most of my time with a verry sick friend  http://www.socaljetboats.com/index.php?topic=3352.msg47316#msg47316  .   The vet says shes not sure if hes going to make it through this one because of his age ( he seems to be giving up ) 

Sorry to hear that Prop, my dog is 14 also and is half blind, half deaf, and sleeps all the time...Probably just a matter of time. Had him from 6 months till now...Feel for ya!

 Thanks for the suport guys !!  Its been a tough weakend.  Hes going back to the vet in the morning (not doing well) , but enough about that, I dont want to cry every time I look back at this thread later if things dont go well. 

 I did take some time and work on the boat today. I cut some LARGE drain holes in the stringers (nothing should plug these up  ) .  The great news is this thing has some realy solid stringers .  This always seams to be a trouble spot on stringers and these were perfect (no rotten wood)  .  Its amazeing to me thay have lasted this long and are in this good of shape, this thing is a 73 ( its older than my last 3 GFs  )  And I'm almost done preping the stringers for a new coat of glass.  Now the floor is another story  , thats takeing alot of time because I want to start fresh (so many old coats of glue and goo) .

 Another question !!  This hull has no crossbrace between the stringers (front of bilge area).  It looks like it had one in the past , maybe Busby removed it because of his motor placement.  Should I replace the wood one    I will be running a verry strong rail kit in there (full length rails) and could add some crossbraces to that

Looks real good. I don't think I've seen a V bottom jet boat not have one of those cross braces just ahead of the engine. A friend of mine has a Eliminator and it does have a crossbrace. No plywood/floor in it though. Flat bottom v-drives, my tunnel hull, most tunnel hulls, do not have a cross brace.

 Good point, I never thought about flatbottoms not haveing them and my Daytona dosnt have one

I took it out because I wasn't going to be running on the river with it, it was going to be less than 30 second passes in it.

I would glass one back in. It won't be a structual piece, more of an insurance to keep water/oil out of your carpet in case of a motor issue deal. (hopefully that won't happen)

Having the bilge board will keep any water where it belongs ... in the bilge area (make sure you drill a 3/4" hole in it for a removeable transom plug)

 Update !!   The glue is all off the floor.    I hate carpet glue/contact cement  !!!  This was a horrible job (removeing it), the glue was at least 1/4 in thick in places and buried under what I think was a layer of ruberized undercoating .  There is still some left on the sides but that wont take long to get off  .

  Its dusty but its makeing progress , I think .

I'm still undecided about what to do with the floors  .  Some parts look ok and other parts look cloudy (thick layers of glass  )  and the whole thing shows shiney strands of glass when you get it wet in the sun .

LOL ,  The funny thing is if I cant figure out some way to make it look good than thats what I'm going to do  . It just pisses me off to think about it !!!

I've heard of people complaining that wood floors get slippery when they're wet, I dunno I've never had wood floors. A great looking wood floor looks great. 

I've had carpet, carpet with GM engine's.    Oil will weaken and stain carpet.

The black (paint? flowcoat?) floor in mt boat gets hotter than a Tijuana hooker's kooch after years with the drips.

  Yea,  Ford oil does the same thing .

I did my whole boat with Marine grade for $150 including a gallon of glue...

So whats it gonna be?? well there is always the next couple of years to get it done J/K
There is too many pro's and con's trying to decide , Wood floor or carpet. All have good points and bad!!


My solution........  Get drunk, say fug it!!!!! and go buy some damn carpet   GET R DONE.........

 Yea I know ,  but sometimes I get something in my head and just cant give-up on the idea  ( wood floors ) .  I just hate the dirty oily carpet in my old boat !!!  And the wood is sooooo pretty.  Someone told me it would be easyer to add a wood vaneer (sp) over the old stuff and that sounds like a better solution for this ??  What do you guys think ?   It looks like to be able to show whats there I would have to strip off all the old glass and reglass the whole floor and stringers (not going to happen).

 I now know this thing will not make the Parker trip  , but I only want to do this once .  I still have the Daytona to do next winter, so its now or never for these floors  .

Well the Eliminator isnt the only boat not going , the Bahner is not going to show up either...

Still have too much to do , and money is getting tight soooooooo............. now im back to baby steps

My vote would be to black out (paint or flow coat) the stringers, bilge, bulk head and transom and carpet inside/outside the stringers with grey carpet. Of course you'll need to add a bilge board between the stringers at the front of the engine area ... black that out too

Well look who came to visit  .   Whats up Brian ?  Do you miss your old baby ?   Sorry but the red/orange/yellow strips are gone now  .  And trust me you should have removed all this old glue and extra resin along time ago (it would have been faster  ) .   I dont know what this thing weighs but it is alot lighter than my old boat , I noticed today that it wasnt quite centered on the trailer .  So I just grabed it by the opening in the transome for the pump and picked it up and moved it 

Btw, Brian do you have any old pics of it back when you ran it ?

 Got a delivery from Ironman today  , two 8' rails (2 1/2" angle) and some extra for whatever I need to use it for  .  Yea its overkill but this thing will be strong !!  Got them just in time , his work was cutting them up for scrap today

Yep, that is some heavy duty aluminum thats for sure. I picked up some for some rail kits that I will be making. Sure was a shame to cut it up for scrap. I probably cut up 400' of it but I stashed some in the shop just in case
